Bad Day

album-bad-day-pt2 Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Saturday 9: Bad Day

1. Is there anything that you tend to do to cheer up when you are having a bad day?

Yeah. I eat sweets – chocolates, cakes, ice creams.

2.What’s the last card game you played, and with whom did you play?

Can’t remember. I’ve been so busy this past few weeks that I haven’t had social life, so to speak.

3.What’s the last board game you played, and with whom did you play?

Same, can’t remember it. But I’m sure I haven’t played board games this year.

4.What’s the last computer game you played, and with whom did you play?

Plants vs Zombies! I did that while my son was still sleeping early this morning. By the time he woke up, I won’t be able to touch the computer.

5.Is there somewhere you’d like to visit but have not, and where is it?

I have a list of places I want to go, domestically and internationally. I haven’t been out of my country. Singapore or Hongkong/Macau would be nice for a first time out of the country travel, don’t you think?

6.Think of your favorite movie (or a movie you really like, if you can’t think of a favorite). Some people say that the reasons you love your favorite movie are related to what you value in romantic relationships. How is this true or untrue in your case?

Probably. Or I suppose the movie you loved the most is want you want to happen in your life.

7.What physical attributes do you find the most attractive?

I’d go for the eyes.

8.How many people live in your house? Tell us about them.

Just the four of us. Me, my husband, my 4-year old son who goes to school and my 11-month old daughter.

9. Ever punch someone in the face?

No, I haven’t. I’m wishing I won’t have the need to do it to a person.

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. In fact sometimes, if you want to read & comment on everyone's responses, you might want to check back again tomorrow. But it is not a rule. We haven’t any rules here. Wishlist: an all inclusive Jamaica vacation for the whole family

jamaica It is rainy days here in this side of the world unlike the other countries where Mr. Sun is brightly shining now. I always daydream, wouldn't it be nice to be on a beach somewhere lying in hammock that is gently swaying from the ocean breeze coming across the beautiful white sands? I have been stressed out for the past few days, mentally and physically, and I would welcome a break. I was delighted to know that Jamaica vacations are one of the top rated travel destinations on the net. It would have been lovely if it’s just a stone throw away here. They say the island is a melting pot of different cultures – African, Asia, European and Middle Eastern to include a few. And the best and one of the largest beach resorts on the island is the award winning Breezes Grand Resort and Spa, Negril Jamaica. I heard there is no need for a visa to visit, but I still had to confirm it. But right now I would like to update my wish list to include at the very top, an all inclusive Jamaica vacation. I just wish the boss, my dear husband, would approve it. I know he would enjoy it too, with all the great food and beautiful sights to see.

Inception

inception-poster

I was finally able to watch this most talk about movie here in this side of the world. Others say you have to watch it twice before you understand the whole story. Others say you won’t distinguish which is which, reality and dream. Others say don’t you dare blink or you won’t be able to fully grasp the whole plot.

Armed with what others say, my colleague and I brave ourselves to Greenbelt to watch it. And yes, we didn’t dare talk during the whole time although I was occasionally by the husband’s SMS.

Here’s the plot summary which I grab here.

Dom Cobb is a skilled thief, the absolute best in the dangerous art of extraction, stealing valuable secrets from deep within the subconscious during the dream state, when the mind is at its most vulnerable. Cobb's rare ability has made him a coveted player in this treacherous new world of corporate espionage, but it has also made him an international fugitive and cost him everything he has ever loved. Now Cobb is being offered a chance at redemption. One last job could give him his life back but only if he can accomplish the impossible-inception. Instead of the perfect heist, Cobb and his team of specialists have to pull off the reverse: their task is not to steal an idea but to plant one. If they succeed, it could be the perfect crime. But no amount of careful planning or expertise can prepare the team for the dangerous enemy that seems to predict their every move. An enemy that only Cobb could have seen coming.

No worries, I won’t post the full synopsis here. I don’t want to spoil others who haven’t seen it. Otherwise, go here and read it.

A few of my favorite lines:

Cobb: Never recreate from your memory. Always imagine new places.

*****

Cobb: What's the most resilient parasite? An Idea. A single idea from the human mind can build cities. An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules. Which is why I have to steal it.

*****

Cobb: Dreams feel real while we're in them. It's only when we wake up that we realize something was actually strange.

*****

Cobb: I can access your mind through your dreams.

*****

Cobb: The seed that we planted in this man's mind may change everything.

*****

Cobb: You see, I think negative emotions are always trumped by positive emotions.

*****

Ariadne: [contemplating her totem] An elegant solution for keeping track of reality.

*****

Saito: Dare you take a leap of faith? Or become an old man, filled with regret, waiting to die alone.

I’d dare say that until now, my mind is still in its own work to remember the movie and finally decide which of the scenes were reality and were dreams. Dream within a dream within a dream within a dream within a dream. I might need my own totem now. Enough said! I’m crazy!

Note: You may want to read this very interesting review of the movie here.

Thursday Thunks: Drawing in the Sand

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of Janera Jepson's eyes and the number 3.

thursday thunks 1. We know how creative Berleen is with her terrific tee-shirts and such, so how about you? Do you draw anything or perhaps your name in the sand when you go to the beach?

Unfortunately, I don’t have creative juice running in my blood. I do get to write my name in the sand though.

2. Kimber doesn’t always leave her house. I wonder if she knows what is out her back door. What is out your back door?

Eerr… We don’t have a back door.

3. Do you prefer the beach, a pool or a lake? Why?

Depends. I prefer the beach if it’s not too hot. The pool if it’s too hot. I haven’t tried to go to a clean lake though.

4. What is something recently that happened to you that you are REALLY excited about?

A lot of things. A possible travel is an example.

5. I am fortunate that I come from a very close family. Are any of your great-grandparents still alive? If not did you ever meet them?

No, I haven’t even met my dad’s parents. But my husband’s grandparents in his father’s side is still alive and kicking.

6. When was the last time you spoke in front of a large group? Tell us about it.

Oh no, I fear of such thing to happen. I’m such a coward when it comes to speaking in public, much more in a large group.

7. Have you ever bungee jumped? Would you ever bungee jump?

No I haven’t and yes, I would if given the chance.

8. How strong emotionally do you think you are?

I am not emotionally strong but I don’t show it to others. I break out only if I’m alone or with my husband.

9. Kimber and Berleen still have NEVER met, yet they are best friends. What is the first thing you notice about people when you meet them?

Physical appearance of course, but that doesn’t matter to me. I’m not a judgmental type of person.

10. Who do you mess with the most?

The husband, LOL!

11. Who was the last person you talked to on a landline?

A supplier in our office.

12. I finally saw Avatar this week. What was the last movie you watched long after it came out and loved?

A-Team. Many says “The Last Airbender” isn’t a good movie compared to the cartoons, so I’d rather not watch it in a movie house or I’ll get disappointed like the others. I have watched the entire cartoon series, that’s why. I’ll be watching Inception later tonight and is hoping it’s a good movie as what others say.

13. What did you dream about last night?

Our, or should I say, my dream house. But I didn’t saw the entire house, only the kid’s room and the hallway going to their room.

FitFlop

Currently making a big wave in the market here in this side of the world is FitFlop. It’s price ranges from Php 2000-4000 depending on the style.

I checked out their website and here’s the benefits of using one.

FitFlop. Get a workout while you walk™

benefits1 FitFlop footwear is biomechanically engineered to help tone and tighten your leg muscles while you walk in them. Studies at the Centre for Human Performance at LSBU show that normal walking in FitFlop sandals(1) can help:

- increase leg, calf and gluteal muscle activity,

- improve your posture,

- mimic the gait of barefoot walking but with more muscle load,

- improve muscle tone.

FitFlop sandals wearers have also reported relief from plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, chronic back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis, RLS (restless leg syndrome), scoliosis and degenerative disc disease.

Our case studies were performed on FitFlop original sandals over a thirty-six month period by Dr David Cook, Senior Lecturer in Biomechanics, and Darren James at The Centre for Human Performance at London South Bank University (LSBU).

The muscle activation benefits in red are derived from case studies conducted.
The benefits in blue are derived from the hundreds of FitFlop sandals wearers who have reported relief from plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, chronic back pain, sciatica, osteoarthritis, RLS, scoliosis, degenerative disc disease, and a number of other conditions. Read wearers’ reviews.

(1) Biomechanical efficacy and performance testing carried out between December 2006 and March 2007 at Salford University, Manchester and the Centre for Human Performance, LSBU, London, on the original Walkstar sandal.

These are the styles I liked and wished to have. I just hope I’d get to have a budget to buy even just one, LOL!

Thanks for the heads-up. I am currently reviewing for my CCNA exam and use every single free time I have to review. An iPod App, specifically an e-book reader can help me big time as I can read my notes anywhere I go, even while I’m waiting for my son in school.

Thursday Thunks: None of Your Business

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of Jill Hennessy's marriage certificate and the number 33,333,333.

woman_holding_hand_with_boundary 1. What is the most common question that you are asked (in life) that is none of the questioner's business?

Why me and my partner aren’t married yet despite having two kids. When do we plan to get married. Etc. Etc. Etc.

2. Who makes you happiest right now?

It’s my kids – bar none.

3. Would you consider yourself to be spoiled?

Spoiled by whom? Nope. I never had the chance to be a spoiled brat ever.

4. Do you want to be famous one day?

I’d say yes. On the other hand, I still think I can’t handle the pressure of being famous.

5. Could you handle being in the military?

No! And never will I.

6. Do you believe in Karma?

Oh yes, I’m one big believer in Karma.

7. What’s the stupidest thing you ever did with your cell phone?

Usually when I get really, really angry, I throw it and watched it smashed on the wall.

8. Who knows a secret or two about you?

My BFF Jhong. We haven’t seen like ages. I miss her badly.

9. Who is the most experimental person you know?

My boss!

10. Last thing you did that ticked off your S/O (or if not in a relationship) most recent S/O?

Oh, he always get ticks off no matter what I do. I care less though.

11. Have you ever purposely been irritating to someone? If yes, explain.

No. I’m such a good girl. Haha!

12. What's crazy to you?

Anything beyond what I do is crazy for me.

13. Who (other than the three of us TT writers) writes the most interesting blog?

I’d say Kelle Hampton of Enjoying the Small Things. She’s a mom who openly writes about her feelings most especially when her youngest daughter arrived early this year.

my simple wish

me I only have one, one simple wish – that is to get a clear skin. After I had my first child, the skin on my face went wild. No, I don’t have zits and pimples and what notes. However, my face got all itchy and I had keloid-like bumps on my cheeks and in between my eyebrows, top my nose. I tried all creams and ointments and facial washes available in the market but none was able to grant my wish. I have been reading Frances’s blogs for the past two months now and just recently, as she was pregnant, she was challenged to take Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate. She was on her 12th day last Saturday and boy, I was so envy when she said her skin was super soft. I want to try to try Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate because who knows, this is might be the grant to my 4-year old wish. As I said, I have never had smooth and clear skin the moment I bore my first child. And now that my college friend is inviting me to her wedding on November, I so badly want to have it. I hope I win my very own bottle of Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Concentrate from Beauty For A Living!

Rest = Sleep = Happy Me

And so I thought I would never had the rest I’ve been longing for the past two weeks but I was finally, finally able to have it yesterday. Yahoo! Thanks to my mom who painstakingly took care of my kids while I cuddle myself to sleep yesterday afternoon. And since my dear husband is out of town, I was able to sleep early that night. Yes, I just badly need to have an undisturbed sleep. Now, I have all the energy to finish all my pending tasks in the office plus the research about gold coins my brother asked me to do. Bring it on!

Birthday celebrations

IMG_5825Last night, the husband and I had a sumptuous dinner at Seaside Macapagal together with my team mates (with their respective partners) and boss. This is only happens once or twice a year so we forget our MLIP and just had fun. We had a seafood feast of crabs, shrimps, salmon and mussels with pork liempo for those who are unfortunate enough to have allergies to seafood. We also bought a cake for our boss who recently celebrated his 40th birthday.

Love Hurts

TheFashioniTunespv

A word about today's title... I promised Bud that I'd let you folks know about his son's band's latest EP, The Fashion. The band, So Long Davey played The House of Blues of Anaheim last night (Friday July 16). Click on their photo and purchase the songs. I love the band! Now on to our normal Saturday!

Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. My husband! Hahaha!

4. What brings you good luck?

I don’t have a lucky charm but I believe seeing the brighter things in life rather than making myself frustrated over things uncontrollable is what gives me luck.

5. Do you have a photo blog? If so, feel free to share the link with us!

4797136696_8fc199b8d3_m And…here we go!

1. This is what life does. It lets you do your own stuff, allowing you to commit mistakes and still continue living..

2. Hugs from small hands and wet kisses from kids, appreciate the moment.

3. Upon reflection one must consider living life to the fullest.

4. I never had a “ME” time for quite a long time.

5. Later, you wake up feeling exhausted after the 24-hour brownout.

6. I wish to be carefree to the far and boundless sea.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to dinner at Dampa Macapagal with my office teammates, tomorrow my plans include bringing Joshua to his grandfather for an overnight stay and Sunday, I want to take a serious rest!

What to do?

In this trying times, one must consider being financially wise. Like others, I too, should be wise in handling our finances. With two kids depending on us, one in preschool already, we should be financially stable for them. We need to meet their needs all the time, no matter what. We have to set our priorities like tuition fees, milk, medicines, vaccines, diapers. On my part, I have set aside my luxury just to meet ends. No more I wants, everything is down to I need. I’m thinking of a good investment, buy gold coins perhaps and let its price grow then sell it again.

What’s with the Google logo today? Can anyone explain what does that mean?

osMun closing down?

bsn_osmun

Earlier this month, I heard a rumour of OsMun closing down. I have relayed to my DH what I heard and of course, we exchanged thoughts about this issue and had been our nightly topic for one week. This has been so timely after ASP won his second term of mayoralty in the city. Who’d feel so bad about it? Those who still believed he is the better leader for the city, the Muntinlupeños who casted their vote for him. The hearsay of workers being laid off and nurses working as volunteers has been confirmed by officemate who’s SIL is a “volunteer nurse” now in the hospital. I don’t want to say further comments on this matter as I might be biased. This has been the first and only public hospital for them and yet, there are speculations of it nearing its end. I just have a simple wish for the city government, that is to put all their means just to save the hospital from closing down.

Comments-FOW

Rainy days has already started here in this side of the world. As such, water-borne diseases are now evident. Just yesterday, DOH has declared Dengue outbreak in the southern part of our country. As a precautionary measure, we make sure we use water filter pitchers in our drinking water. It’s better to be one-step forward in preventing such diseases rather than feel sorry in the end for not doing such.

I don't need a cake

dscf1913 Last Wednesday, I celebrated my 27th birthday. Three years shy from the big 3-0. I didn't celebrate it big tim, actually, I haven't celebrated for the past two years. The day just went by like any other ordinary days. Woke up in the morning and uttered a simple prayer to the Man Above for being ever so faithful to me even thought at times, I doubt his existence. Prepared my kids' things - feeding bottles for the baby and school things for the Kuya.

Woke up J and gave him a bath. Left C with my mom while I accompany J to school. Had breakfast first together with the husband. For practical reasons, I chose to wait for J's dismissal. Off we went to McDonald's as requested by the little boy.

After lunch, spent a few hours with C and put her to sleep. Afterwards, hubby fetch me to watch Eclipse. Had a simple dinner afterwards then went home.

*****

I came to realize that celebration isn't as important as it was to me when I was still younger. Before, it's important for me to treat my officemates, college friends and my family for a dine out. Now, being with my loved ones is far more important to me rather than partying during my special day. But then again, celebrating birthdays also is a realization for me that indeed, I am growing old. Admit it or not, few years from now, I may loose my mom or my dad. Or they may loose me. Morbid it may sound but that's the reality of life.

My 4-year old son didn't greet me a Happy Birthday. His mere reason is the same reason when he didn't greet his father during his birthday. I don't have a cake. Our conversation is as follow:

J: Mom, why don't you have cake on your birthday?
Me: I don't need a cake because I'm already old for that.
J: (starting to cry) I don't want you to grow old.
Me: Why?
J: (crying now) I don't want you to die.

I didn't know what to say then. I simply hug him and told him that in the future we will all die, that made him wail louder. His fear is the same as my fear. He's still too young but was able to grasp the idea of death.

Thank you God for allowing me to spend another birthday with my kids.

Thank God we’re almost done with the summer heat! I was always out of the house and spent the day either inside the office or strolling around the mall. And yes, ice cream, halo-halo and other cold beverages is the answer in beating the heat. Does taking a shower almost every hour counts?

2. What is your favorite summertime song?

I don’t have one.

3. Besides nude beaches what's your favorite outdoor summer activity?

Spending a weekend in Tagaytay. It’s in the outer skirt of the metro here in this side of the world where it is usually cold even in summer days.

4. I'm inviting everyone to a cook-out with Kimber and Berleen. What should I cook for you?

Bbq!

5. When selecting your swimwear do you go for sexy or practical?

I don’t wear swimsuits! But if I had no choice, I usually wear a tank top and a boyleg. Practical!

6. Back in the day, did you ever have a summer fling? If yes, do tell. (Names not required.)

None.

7. Do you know anyone who hates air conditioning? If yes, what is their reasoning?

Everyone I knows loves air conditioning. Who wouldn’t?

8. When and with who was your last skinny dip?

Haven’t done that.

9. How sick of LeBron James are you?

Not a fan of NBA. I should have asked my husband..

10. When you were a kid, what was your best summer?

Spending summer breaks in the province, playing with my cousins in the farm, forgetting how smelly and sweaty we are.

11. Belly up to the bar. We serve ANYTHING. It's 100 degrees. What should we pour for you?

Cocktail drinks only. I don’t drink hard.

12. Is there a favorite meal that you like to have in the summer?

Everything that is grilled! Grilled pork. Grilled fish!

13. Do you think they will solve the oil spill in time for the Gulf states to enjoy summer?

I wishing they could in the most fastest way not just for the sake of enjoying summer though.

It depends on who I am talking to. I tend to repeat whatever I say if I talk to my toddler son.

Confirmed

article-1277453148383-0A312094000005DC-145228_636x607

To Twilight fanatics, it’s confirmed!

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are dating. Read more here.

My birth month

Cliché as it may sound, but really, time flies so fast. Half of 2010 has already passed and I haven’t accomplished any of my goals yet save to sending Joshua to a good school.

July is my birthday month. I know I should be happy, but deep inside me there is still something missing. It has been two years now since I last celebrated my birthday. I have already accepted the bitter fact that birthdays (or celebrating birthdays) are for kids. For me, the day just simply come and go like any ordinary days. If I won’t be able to attend church on that day, I’d simply say a simple prayer of thanks to the Man above for giving me another year to spend with my kids. We don’t go out. We simply hang out on our house or cuddle in our room. At the end of the day, amidst not being able to celebrate my birthday with a candle and foods, I am still at bliss. Nothing compares to the laughter and giggles I hear from my kids.

It’s a holiday, people!

Thursday Thunks: It's a holiday, people!

The TT questions are brought to you by Berleen, the color of Pacific Ocean and the number that comes after 393.

So yeah, it's a holiday weekend. 4th of July... Independence Day... whatever you want to call it. What are you doing on July 5th?

That’ll be a Monday here in this side of the world. My rest day. I’d be spending the mornings with my kid in school.

Have you ever known anyone who has been kidnapped?

Thankfully, none. And I’m hoping no one I personally knew would be kidnapped in the future.

Does wiping with newspaper make you a smartass?

Dunno.

If someone sends you - or you stumble upon a link that will show you celebrity death photos, do you click the link?

Probably yes, but I should have known the person who would send me the link otherwise I’d ignore. Must have been a virus or a malware.

Do you decorate your computer/laptop?

What do you mean with decorate? With skins for laptops? No, I prefer classic jet black color of it.

You see Bud and his lady out walking in a park... suddenly she stops and kicks him square in the ass. What did he say to her?

You’re one hot ass. Let’s go find a place to drive me crazy.

There is a cockroach, a tarantula and a mouse in the room - which one do you kill first?

It’ll be easier to kill the cockroach compared to the tarantula and a mouse. So I’ll go for it.

Did you know that a hay bale can start on fire by itself? Do you know how?

No.

Kimber calls you - what is her voice like?

Bedroom voice telemarketer.

Have you ever played Battleship?

I must admit, I’m a nerdy-nerd type of person so the answer is no.

Days of our Lives paid tribute to Francis Reid/Alice Horton this week (Francis,freid_240x320 the actress, died in February, Alice (the character) died last week). She was 91 years old  and was portrayed as a smart, witty, funny, loving, always gave the best advice type woman. Wonderful mother, grandmother, friend... many characters (and cast members) commented on how they strive to be the type of woman she was. Is there someone in your life that you strive to be like?

I don’t strive to be like someone else, rather I strive not be like anyone else.

Do you attend parades?

Way back in HS, yeah. Not now though.

If Berleen were to purchase three 10-gallon tubs of the peanut butter that they use at Dairy Queens, would you think any less of her?

I don’t know her yet.

If all the flowers but one kind withered and died, never to grow again, but that one kind of flower would grow worldwide forever, what would you want the surviving flower to be?

Err.. The most classic would be roses and tulips.
