Hair, Beautiful Hair!

Short, long, high & tight, sculpted, point cut, dread locks, mohawk ... different climates, cultures, locations seem to demand different hair styles. Who leads the way in hairstyling ... Paul Mitchell, Vidal Sasson ... or is it the celebs with their personal stylists ... regardless the media picks it up, judges it, and we adjust.

Are you ready for IPv6?

IPv6 is short for "Internet Protocol Version 6". IPv6 is the "next generation" protocol designed by the IETF to replace the current version Internet Protocol, IP Version 4 ("IPv4").

In 2011, IPv6 will fully be implemented. At the time of writing, we still have 745 days to be prepared and get equipped with IPv6 knowledge.

Memorial Day

In U.S. we remember those that have fought for our freedom ... we don't take freedom lightly, but sometimes we take those defenders of freedom for granted ... jeez, they're there, it's a job, do your thing, let me do my thing ... not quite that easy ... let's not forget that they also fought alongside our friends in many other nations to preserve a peacefully, free way of life for others, worldwide.

Scary!!!

We aren’t anymore negative of the A H1N1 virus, as of yesterday, 10-year old girl was confirmed to have the said virus.

DOH - UPDATE NO. 18 - RP's FIRST H1N1 CASE

21 May  2009

The Department of Health is officially announcing this evening the first confirmed case of Influenza A (H1N1) in the Philippines.

A female traveler arrived in the Philippines on May 18, Monday, from the United States and Canada. A throat specimen was collected, and was tested at the Research Institute of Tropical Medicine (RITM) on May 20, Wednesday, after she developed fever, sore throat and cough.

Today, RITM confirmed that the specimen tested positive for the novel Influenza A (H1N1) on PCR using the primers sent by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

She was immediately started on an antiviral, Oseltamivir, and given supportive care. At this time, the patient is continuously being monitored. She no longer has fever or cough, but still has sore throat.

The DOH would like to emphasize that there is no community level outbreak in the country and measures are being done by the government to prevent transmission, starting with the quarantine of household close contacts.

The family of the patient has been informed and advised about the situation. We would like to thank them for their cooperation and willingness to comply with the recommendations of the DOH. They were advised to observe self-monitoring, home quarantine, social distancing, proper hygiene and respiratory etiquette procedures.

We appeal to our media partners and the rest of the nation to respect the privacy and anonymity of the patient and her family. Rest assured that any information vital to protect public health and safety will be appropriately shared to those concerned.

The DOH also stresses that the discovery of this first case of Influenza A(H1N1) in the Philippines is something we have been preparing for and is a result of the collective efforts of both public and private sectors as well as the effective surveillance system which we have put in place.

The DOH has already notified the International Health Regulations (IHR) and will submit its official report in 24 hours.

Influenza A (H1N1) is currently affecting 41 other countries with 11,034 cases and 85 deaths. Thus far, the behavior of the virus is to cause generally mild illness and low mortality (<1%) in the affected population.

This development only shows the vulnerability of all countries to the threat of Influenza A (H1N1) which indicates that no nation and no government should be complacent. Thus, we continue to strengthen our systems for surveillance, early detection and management and effective response. We are also closely coordinating with the WHO, other agencies of government and the private sector to effectively combat the virus.

Our stockpiles of Oseltamivir is currently sufficient at 1 million capsules and have been distributed in regional hubs all over the country. We would like to remind the public that Oseltamivir may only be dispensed and taken upon the advice of your doctor. Irrational use can result in drug resistance that causes the drug to become ineffective in the future.

We reiterate to the public that government is on top of the situation and everyone is advised to be vigilant. If you have arrived from an affected country and develop flu-like symptoms (or TRANGKASO) such as fever, sore throat and cough, immediately consult a medical professional or call the DOH Hotline at (02) 711-1001 or 711-1002.

This situation is evolving globally. We will give regular updates to the media and the public as information becomes available.

Shell Ferrari model car with real engine sound

DSC02389Before sharing with you an anecdote from my son about this car, I’ll first share his shots from our ever reliable P&S cam.

         DSC02384  DSC02385 DSC02386

The story behind the car (Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano):

Last Friday night, while I prepare Joshua for bed, I told him that we are going to Manaoag tomorrow morning with Papa Boy (husband’s father) so he needs to sleep early. I also told him that we’ll be buying the car he wants. Instantly, he blurted out:

“Hindi car bili Papa Boy, PSP. Daddy bili car kasi kaya nya bili yun. PSP kay Papa Boy.”

I lost words when I heard that, but I can’t help but laugh. The husband was on our bed and definitely heard that but I commented:

“Dy, narinig mo yun? Ang baba ng tingin ng anak mo sa’yo.”

We were laughing out hard after that. I wonder where did he get such idea. Hmm…

Angels and Demons

Spoiler ahead.

angels-demons-tsr-poster-is-fullThe husband and I were able to watch the most awaited movie of the year last Tuesday. What can I say about the movie? I was disappointed.

If I didn’t read the book, I would for sure love the movie. The whole story was changed. There are missing characters that played important role in the story. Leonardo Vetra and Vittoria became partners instead of father and son. I was waiting for the plane that took Robert from the US to Geneva in 1 hour, but it wasn’t shown in the movie. Instead, Robert was fetched by a Vatican police. Vittoria is wearing shorts in the book but wears formal attire in the movie. There are a lot of important scenes that were deleted in the movie.

Instead of four cardinals being killed, there was only three. The last one was saved and became Pope in the later part of the story. The killer was so mabait for letting Robert and Vittoria go, the book says otherwise even wanting to rape Vittoria. The reporter from BBC who had scoops about the killings weren’t included.

The camerlegno killed himself without knowing that he’s the son of the late Pope. (This I believe they purposely not shown in the movie to avoid Catholic criticisms.)

Overall, the whole scene was a-ok. The blast from the antimatter was really good, not a simple make belief. One would think the scenes were shot inside the Vatican. The colors and the images were all vivid.

So, if you would want to watch the movie, better not read the book or you too might get disappointed like me.

Our Manaoag pilgrimage

We were already on the road at half past three in the morning at arrived there half past seven. The church was jam packed (the cause why the husband didn’t bother taking pictures). There was even a wedding rites going on when we arrived. After which, we heard mass and off we go to buy candles to lit. At this time, the little boy is already cranky (we woke him up at 3am to prep him up) so no picture taking happened. Went back home and arrived four in the afternoon. We were dead tired, I swear but we manage to buy school supplies for the little boy before ending the day.

Here are the pictures that the husband we able to take:

The decision

Remember this?

We’ve finally made a decision. Read it here.

The perfect bed

bed With the coming of our little angel in three months time, the husband and I are contemplating that it’s high time to get a new bed as our family is getting bigger. We do not have any choice but to co-sleep with the kids as we are living in a one-bedroom unit adjacent to my parents’ house.

We are already discussing what type of bed are we suppose to buy. The husband goes for those that are made of metal while I want the classic, old style type of bed that is made of wood. Good thing I stumble upon a site that showcase several rustic furniture that I’m dying to show to my husband.

Manaoag

manaoagI’m so excited as my FIL asked us if we wanted to come with them to Manaoag tomorrow. Of course, I accepted the offer. We’ll be hitting the road by 4am. I just hope the little boy will cooperate. This would be our very first pilgrimage, it the plans will push through.

According to their website, the church of Our Lady of Manaoag was established 400 years ago. The ivory image was brought in our country by Padre Juan de San Jacinto from Spain via Acapulco after ten years. According to folk tradition, the Blessed Mother Mary herself designated the place where the church would be built. The church and the image passed through unnumbered historical events, and remain unmoved by them.

On Sept 1925, the Papal Rescript granting approval for the canonical coronation of Our Lady was received in Manaoag.

On domain and web hosting

Is it the right time or not?

I’ve been pondering about this over a few months now as I badly wanted to get my own domain. I’ve been searching hi and low for several web hosting services before I stumble upon this certain site, the best blog hosting site that has everything one needs. If one, like me, doesn’t have any idea about domain and web hosting, might as well visit the site as you can see there top ten web hosting sites as well as free domain names. Isn’t that great?

But of course, getting my own domain and web hosting has been neglected by who else, but me as I’ve been given several tasks making me too busy to even update my two blogs. Like now, even being on my 22nd week now, I’ve accepted our company’s offer to send me together with my colleague to a 5-Sunday CCNA boot camp in Manila. Afterwards, I need to focus on reviewing for the exam as I plan to get the certification before I took a leave. I do hope I can fulfil all my plans before seeing the little angel in my tummy.

Anyways, I almost have decision already on what bottles to get for the little angel. Back to domain and web hosting, should I get it or not?

Torn

So excited for baby shopping and at this point, I am already torn. Although I already made my own layette, I still continue to browse online for other options. We still need to wait for few more weeks so we can learn the baby’s gender. That’ll be the husband’s go signal for me to shop. Which one should I get? To all mommies, help me decide please. Read here.

Pacquiao vs Hatton

Okay, the whole country is going gaga over this much anticipated fight. The husband is of course rooting for who else, but our very own Pacquiao. I’m not into boxing nowadays, even remembering rooting for the other camp every Pacquiao fight. Hehehe!

We’ll see tomorrow if the country will be celebrating once more. One thing for sure, there will be no crimes during the late telecast of the fight in GMA 7.

Health conscious

The last time I had my prenatal check-up, I gained a whopping 5 lbs in a month. Wow! That was really, really big weight increase. Also, I need to be conscious with what I eat now as the husband noticed I am in to sweets lately. Good thing, I found out about a certain website that offers products. It was founded in 1996 and has served more than 1 million customers now. I’ll be ordering breast feeding pillow, shower chair, and weight vests. I’ve been browsing just two categories on their site now: children/pediatric and maternity care. Need I explain more?

Weather, weather

I think I’m getting flu for the third time now. The other day, our weather was hot, hot, hot. The next day, it’ll all be rain, rain, rain.

Gawd! With my present condition now, my body is having a hard time adjusting to our weather. The local news said summer isn’t over yet but why are having such weirdo weather nowadays. Is this a sign of something?

How I wish I was in Arizona where the weather is roughly 80 degrees. I think I’ll be loving the weather there. I’m sure my kiddo too, as he will be enjoying playing in any of those landscaping for Arizona.

Off I'll go now as I need to check on some landscape services.
