There is still Hope

yellow ribbon

Today, 30th of June, marks the inauguration of the 15th President of the Republic of the Philippines. Noynoy Aquino (Benigno Simeon Aquino III), the only son of the late Senator Ninoy Aquino and late President Cory Aquino, will take oath of office at Quirino Grandstand in Manila. It will be administered by Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines Conchita Carpio-Morales.

The theme of the inaugaration is Tagumpay ng Taumbayan, Panata sa Pagbabago. This has been planned for weeks by the Presidential Transition Coordination Team (PTCT) and the Aquino Transition Team.

Although President Noynoy wasn’t my choice to be our country’s leader, I am still hoping that he would meet the expectation of those who voted for him. May our country rise from whatever we had right now. And may he be the symbol that there is still hope for this country.

God bless the Philippines!

Forgetful I am

Today is our 15th President Noynoy Aquino’s inauguration. The incumbent President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced this day as Noynoy’s Day (a non-working holiday). No school for my kiddo Joshua, but still work for me.

I am at work right now. No choice but to report to work as our team now operates 24/7. The kuya tagged along and so far so good, he is behave playing games in one of our PCs. I am kinda sleepy as I tend to the little girl who is sick. We are administering meds right now and hopefully by the end of this week, she is all well. I know I’ve got tons to do but I tend to forget everything once I stare at my monitor. My boss would definitely kill me once he learned all my pending stuff. Haha! Blame it all to my epidural shots (twice!). Gawd! I still need to research about where to buy gold eagle coins now. Tada!

Take it! Take It!

Viveka-Babajee Here in this side of the world, you’d be familiar with the name Viveka Babajee for her infamous line “Take it! Take it!” during 1994 Filmfest Scam.

Sadly though, she has ended her life by hanging herself from a ceiling fan on her own house.

Letter From The Sky

51XJ-IY-gZL__SL500_AA280_ Welcome to Saturday: 9. What we've committed to our readers is that we will post 9 questions every Saturday. Sometimes the post will have a theme, and at other times the questions will be totally unrelated. Those weeks we do "random questions," so-to-speak. Saturday 9: Letters From the Sky

1. Do you believe that we will ever be contacted by beings from another planet?

No. I don’t believe in aliens.

I’m not actually sure. My father have half-sisters and half-brothers on both his mom and dad but I haven’t met them.

3. Did you ever consider an acting career?

If I had the chance, why not. Many people here in this side of the world prefers such career to become famous and earn money instantly.

Uhm. Nothing.

5. What's the first movie you remember ever seeing in a theater?

The last movie I saw was just last Father’s day with my eldest and my husband. It was Toy Story 3. Too bad we weren’t able to watch it in 3D. Boo!

6. What's the most difficult confession you've ever had to make?

The most difficult I’d say was a confession to my husband when we were still dating out. I’d prefer to keep that confession a secret for me and for my husband.

7. What is a city that you have visited and hated?

Here in this side of the world? LP! Damn traffic!

8. Has anyone in your life been "they one who got away"?

Not actually sure about it.

9. Why do you think the 10 foot duck walked into the bar on Thursday Thunks?

Seriously?! 10 foot duck?! I haven’t seen one!

Thursday Thunks: Welcome to Summertime 2010!

The TT questions are brought to you by Bud, the color of Atlantic Ocean and the number 3.

aaaahhh 1. It became officially summer on Monday. What's your favorite part of winter?

The cold weather! The feeling of staying fresh all the time. Oh, I hate the warm and sweaty feeling caused by summer. I hate having sunburnt. I am not fond of summer.

2. What was your worst summer vacation ever?

Did I just say I am not fond of summer? So, nothing could ever be worst than being in the summer season.

3. Kimber's husband just got the dream job that he's hoped for. So a big shout out to her and Anthony! Tell us about the best job that you ever had.

So far, after how many jobs I have landed, what I currently have is so far the best. I get to still have ample times for surfing (*wink *wink) while working. I have the best boss ever!

4. Who is probably talking a load of crap about you right now?

I don’t know and I don’t care who the hell he might be.

5. An alien appears and offers you the opportunity to repeat one year of your life. You will still know everything that you know now. He explains that no matter what you do differently, when you are returned to the present nothing will have changed. What year would you pick and why?

The year I had a relationship with my ex-boyfriend in college. It was something I regret to have as my past.

6. Name three things you have on you at all times. Explain why.

Material things? Cellular phone. Wallet. Company ID. Need I explain why?

7. When was the last time you wrote a letter to someone on paper and mailed it?

Gawd! I forgot when and what was the letter all about. Never did snail mail after I was introduced to e-mail.

8. If you could have everyone in the blogosphere read just one of your posts, which post would you pick and why?

The post is titled Confessions. This consists of how I become a mother and what exactly a type of person I am.

9. I recently read that the music industry continues to decline at an alarming rate. In the last year it said the sales of Michael Jackson's and The Beatles' music are the only artists who sales continue to climb. The article stated that the two are holding up the industry. Have you bought a CD or mp3 of either artist recently?

Yup! I bought a CD of our own International Singing Sensation’s Charice Pempengco. I so loved her “Pyramid.”

10. What radio ad right now do you find so annoying that you'd rather have a tooth drilled than hear it again?

A lot! Radio stations in this side of the world sucks bigtime now.

Managing One’s Finances

philippine-peso I must admit I do not know how to manage my own money. There are several times when we run out of funds a week before the next payday comes. We seldom save up. Being with my colleagues who have been seriously into managing their finances, they told me to try “The Jar System.”

The money you are earning would be allocated for different purposes. It would be divided into 6 jars (or envelopes to be realistic). The jars are as follow:

  1. Financial freedom account (FFA) – 10% of your income should be put in this jar. This can be used for investment purposes like businesses.
  2. Necessities (NEC) – 55% of your income goes here. This is for the bills that needs to be paid, food, necessary clothes, etc.
  3. Long term saving for spending (LTSS) – 10% of your income should be allocated for this jar. You may have more than one LTSS jar but you have to divide the 10% allocated money for the jars depending on its priority. This is to be used for the plasma TV you want, a family vacation abroad, contingency fund, kid’s tuition fees, etc.
  4. Education (EDU) – 10% of your income that goes into this jar is for your own education. It can be used to attend seminars, buy books – it’s for your continuous learning.
  5. Play – 10% of your income should be allocated here. This is for guilt-free fun such as dining in a fancy restaurant, massage or spa.
  6. Giving (GIV) – 5% of your income should be given to charity. It my case, it goes to the church. If you want to allocate 10% for this, take off 5% on the NEC jar.

At first, one would find it difficult as one’s income is sometimes not enough for their necessities. If you only a few money, you can start by allocating a thousand peso divided between the 6 jars.

It doesn’t matter if what you put in the jar is a small amount. It’s the habit of managing the money that matters most.

Living Separately

I just received an alarming text message from the husband.

Me, sabi nla dun daw tyo tmira smin sbi nanay kkusapn daw nya cla mama.. sbi din ni tita merced.

Oh no! This message got me teary eyed and in panic mode. I can't really explain as to why I loathe living with my in-laws. Let me just put it simply by saying I am not comfortable living with them. There is actually no issues about us. It's just it isn't my world.

We are in quite rocky times, financially speaking. And living with them is a great help. But I still prefer to go into that state rather than to live with them.

We are living with my parents, but technically lives in a separate household. Meaning, we do our own laundry, cook our own food, have our own electric and water bill, etc. Though we are living in a "studio-type condo" room size, I am loving every independence we have. I can do whatever I can do, the kids can do whatever they can do.

My mom is accessible. I can easily ask favors upon favors when it comes to my kids. She looked after my youngest when I am out or in the office without compain. My aunt, who lives next door, accompanies my eldest to school and waits until it the kid's time to go home.

I am starting to get stressed out as the husband is buying the idea of living with his parents. See, everything revolves in the idea of "comfortability."

Shell’s Meet the Toys

Oh the little boy would surely be delightful if the husband would be able to complete Toy Story 3 collectibles available in Shell. Only 80 bucks for a minimum purchase of 500 pesos worth of V-Power or 130 bucks for any Shell’s fuels.

toy story 3 shellFive toys to collect are Alien, Lot’s-o’-Huggin’ Bear, Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie and Bullseye.

alien Ooohh!! Wind up the aliens' spaceship and let it loose on a table-top; it never falls off the side.

bear Fill Lotso's truck with water and wheel it into position. Push the button and a powerful jet shoots out.

woody Pull Woody back on the train to wind the toy up. Then let go and set him clattering into the distance.

buzz Pull back Buzz and see him whirl away at light speed as the spaceship wings pop up. To infinity and beyond!

jessie Pull Jessie back on a flat surface, release, and watch as she takes off on a bucking Bullseye.

Saturday 9: Jumping Someone Else's Train

1. When was your last train ride?

Oh my God! I really can’t remember when was the last time I rode a train.

2. How many foreign countries have you visited? Tell us about one.

3. What do you always take with you on vacation?

Well, of course, aside from clothes and toiletries and money, the CAMERA shouldn’t be left behind.

4. Tell us about something you've lost recently.

I lost money which I’ll use to pay my debt from my mom. I can’t remember how I lost it though.

5. Do you prefer action packed vacations or relaxing ones?

It depends on who I am vacationing with. If it’s just me and the husband, I prefer to have the action packed one. If it’s with the kids, I’d say relaxing ones (with a little action packed for the kids).

6. How long will you wait in a check out line before abandoning your purchases?

I haven’t done it. I guess if I’m still in the line for more than 15 minutes, it’s over.

7. How old do you wish you were?

Early 20s! LOL!

8. Do you consider yourself kind?

I guess so. I think it’s better to ask other people rather than me.

1. Have you ever wondered why snakes can't slither backwards?

No. It doesn’t matter to me anyway =)

2. Is divorce contagious?

I don’t think so. Unless, your marriage is quite a bit rocky and you talked to a person who has gone divorced, then you might think to go divorce too.

3. Do you enjoy hiking?

I haven’t tried hiking. And I think I won’t enjoy it as I don’t want to get perspired although I would have loved to get on top of the mountain. Weird I am, eh?

4. Is there a color of a shirt a man should just never wear?

I think none although a lot of man doesn’t want to wear feminine colored shirt like purple (all shades) and pink.

5. Have you read a news story this week that just made your blood boil?

I don’t read the news =)

6. Do you keep old business cards or name tags from companies you have worked for?

No. All their contact numbers are stored in my journal though.

7. If you could save an endangered species, which one would it be?

I’d say it would be our own Tarsier. I haven’t seen a real one face to face and I am still hoping if I had the chance to see one, they would still exist.

8. When is it warm enough outside for you to start wearing shorts?

I do wear shorts at home but not going out. I wouldn’t dare as my husband is not keen on that idea.

9. Have you ever broken a window?

Luckily, not yet.

10. Do dogs in your neighborhood howl when they hear sirens from police cars or fire trucks?

No idea. Haven’t heard my neighbor’s dog howl.

11. Have you tried doing something as an adult that you used to be able to do as a kid?

Yeah! Play in the rain with my kids. Eat ice cream on street. Act like a kid and watch cartoons all the time.

The Karate Kid

June is almost over. Only a few more days and we’re entering my birthday month. Well, I’m not actually excited about it as I don’t plan to celebrate my birthday. I started not to celebrate my natal day after I had my first born. Anyhow, before the fuss of Father’s Day on Sunday, the husband and I had a quick movie date yesterday to watch “The Karate Kid.”

karate kid

Although I have read a lot of negative comments about the movie, stating Jaden Smith got the lead role because his father Will Smith was the producer, that there is no need to do a remake of the original movie, blah, blah, blah – I was still excited to watch the movie. It was a feel good movie and I felt the emotions of the characters most especially the bully. In short, mababaw lang akong tao.

The story revolved in the life of Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) from Detroit who moved in to China with his mother. On their first day, he was bullied on the park. He then got afraid learning that the bully was also studying on the same school his mother sent him. As the movie progresses, he was then attack by the bullies (all six of them) and this time Mr. Han (Jackie Chan), whom he met as the maintenance man, helped him and trained him to face the bullies  at an upcoming kung fu tournament.

The learning system revolved on Dre’s attitude of not putting the jacket on the rack whenever he arrives home. And so, Mr. Han taught him kung fu by putting a jacket on, taking it off, hanging it up, and taking it down.

Independence day

Today marks our country’s 112th anniversary of our Independence day. It is also the last Independence day celebration as president for Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo as president-elect Noynoy Aquino assumes office on the end of the month. The government arranged a day of rediscovering our independence at Luneta Grandstand.

I don’t want to mock if we do really are an independent country. Let me just leave you with our former president Diosdado Macapagal says:

“A nation is born into freedom on the day when such a people, moulded into a nation by a process of cultural evolution and sense of oneness born of common struggle and suffering, announces to the world that it asserts its natural right to liberty and is ready to defend it with blood, life, and honor.”

And oh! Mr. Google is celebrating our Independence as well.

Saturday 9: Goodbye to You

1. Have you had to say goodbye to a good friend or lover because they were moving?

Moving somewhere else? Nope. But moving on, yep. A few times with my past lovers.

2. Have you ever wanted to use personal information about someone to sort of "blackmail" them? If yes, tell us about it.

I’ve been tempted a lot of times to do such but still was able to control myself =)

3. What two things influenced the choice of your present job or to stay at home?

Finances and future goals.

4. Do you like warm weather? How warm does it get where you live? What is the best way to spend a hot, summer day?

No, I don’t like warm weather. Summer is over in this side of the world, or so I thought. The highest temperature recorded this summer was 39 degrees Celsius. The best way to spend a hot, summer day is to chill in a place where it is cold. I told you I’m not a fan of summer days.

5. What do you find "hot" in a man/woman? What is the first thing you notice about someone who is hot? Do you ever think of yourself as hot?

For a man, I would say it their body built. Though I find those who had super, duper muscles all around their body disgusting. For a woman, I’d say their butt =)

Am I hot? LOL!

6. Are you quick to anger? How do you react when you are angry or frustrated? What do you do to cool down?

I have a very small temper so yes, I am quick to anger. And when I do, I really vent out or I might end up killing myself =)

7. In your family, who is the least like the rest of you?

I’m not actually sure about that.

8. What are a few great books that you've taken along to the beach or on vacation in years past? If you aren't a big reader, what do you do to while away the lazy hours?

Twilight saga. Harry Potter saga. Shopaholic series. Angels and Demons. Da Vinci Code.

9. Do you like going outside during a thunderstorm and watching the lightening?

Oh no, never in my entire life will I do that. I’m afraid!

Thanks so much for joining us again at Saturday: 9. As always, feel free to come back, see who has participated and comment on their posts. Goodbye!

For weeks now, I’ve been drooling about this certain bag I saw from my online friend. Gawd! It really haunted me. And when a colleague offered me to buy the bag which I can pay in two installments for a month, I automatically grab it. But then again, my high hopes pop like bubbles when she said she was able to have a word with her husband and that the bag didn’t fall into my budget. Oh well, goodbye dear bag. And so I thought I’ll have you as my baby :c
